Hallam & Littlewood Solicitors and Conveyancers is a family-owned practice providing legal services to the Hunter Region of NSW.
The firm was originally mentored by Fred Hallam, a retired solicitor and former Mayor of the City of Greater Cessnock, who interrupted his legal career to serve as a navigator in the RAAF during the Second World War. In 1980, Fred’s daughter Kristine Hallam Littlewood and son Ken Hallam followed him into legal and conveyancing services along with Kristine’s husband, Robert Littlewood, and together they established Hallam & Littlewood. The firm has provided assistance to thousands of local people and businesses over the past 40 years including many hours of pro-bono and unpaid work for the community. Kristine and Robert have held roles as Board members of not-for-profit organisations, with Kristine assisting on the board of the Hunter Valley Tourism Board for years, Robert being a member of the local Lions Club, and both serving as honorary solicitors for organisations including the Cessnock District Tennis Club, Cessnock Country Women’s Association, Cessnock Historical Society, Cessnock Athletics Club and more.
In 2006, Robert and Kristine’s daughter, Lisa Littlewood, was admitted as a solicitor and as from 2020, Lisa has taken over as Principal of the firm. Robert now acts as Special Counsel and Kristine continues as a senior solicitor for the firm. Ken retired some years ago to pursue his involvement with Lions Club International.
Our experienced and long-serving support staff include Cherin MacDonald, Kylie Williams, Sally Tinkler Hare, and Holly Stephenson, all of whom are dedicated to the “old-fashioned” values of service, integrity and absolute discretion.
The firm is located in the main street of Cessnock, a busy, growing town at the gateway to the Hunter Valley vineyards and close to the coastal areas of Newcastle City and Port Stephens. Drawing traditionally from long-time residents, business people and organisations of Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Maitland and Singleton, and the rural landholders and farming communities of the Wollombi Valley and the Lower and Upper Hunter, our clientele is now quite diverse. Over the last twenty years the client base has expanded to service the influx of people and businesses from Sydney and the Central Coast regions who are investing in and re-locating to the Hunter for the economic opportunities and lifestyle benefits that abound here. Electronic conveyancing and other technologies ensure that any geographic distance between our office and our clients is inconsequential: we can e-mail or video conference with you on the other side of the world, or make a home or hospital visit if necessary.
